The Famen Temple

The Famen Temple (法门寺) is a famous buddhist temple in Fufeng County (扶风县), Shaanxi Province. The temple is famous for keeping a genuine Buddhist relic (舍利) of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism. The Famen Temple was built in the later years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and the original name was "the Temple of Asoka King". Asoka was a great king in the history of India and he devoted himself to propagandize Buddhism. In the Tang Dynasty, the Famen Temple was at the zenith of its fame. Eight emperors of the Tang Empire paid respect to the Buddhist relic of Sakyamuni. In 1987, When workers were re-building the Famen Temple, they found a underground passage. In the underground passage, a large number of cultural relics were unearthed. Four Buddist relics were found, but only one is the genuine Buddist relic of Sakyamuni.

Now, the architectural style of the Famen Temple is the style of the Tang Dynasty. You will feel excited when you watch the majestic style.
