Ancient Chinese people thought that, in the moon, there were a hare and a toad; meanwhile, in the sun, there was a crow with three legs. In a famous old myth, when Hou Yi (后羿) shot the nine suns, the suns turned into nine crows and fell down. The relievos in the tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty shows the mythical animals in the moon and the sun. The photoes were taken in the Museum of Steles (碑林博物馆) of Xi'an.
