The Wei Mausoleum of Han Yuan-Emperor

Han Yuan-Emperor (汉元帝, 76 B.C.-33 B.C.) was the eighth emperor of the Western Han Dynasty. He was reigning from 48 B.C. to 33 B.C.. In his times, the Han's army utterly defeated the Huns, and killed the supreme chief of the Huns. An officer declared in public, "If one dares to offend the strong Han Empire, he will be punished wherever he stays." The famous story of Wang Zhaojun (王昭君) was also in his times. The empress of Han Yuan-Emperor was named Wang Zhengjun (王政君), an important woman who influenced the political situation of the later years of the Western-Han Dynasty. She had a nephew named Wang Mang (王莽), who later became a controversial famous reformer.The Mausoleum of Han Yuan-Emperor is called "Wei Mausoleum" (渭陵). The Wei Mausoleum is in the northern plain of Xianyang (咸阳). The tombs of the wife, concubines, important ministers of Han Yuan-Emperor are in the area where the Wei Mausoleum is located.
